In-Vitro Antidiabetic Effect of Ziziphus mucronata Leave Extracts

Background: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to the body’s inability produce insulin or inaction of produced combination both. One antidiabetic therapeutic approach reduce gastrointestinal glucose production and absorption through inhibition carbohydrate digesting enzymes such as alpha-amylase well hemoglobin glycosylation.
 Objective: This study sets out evaluate in vitro activity Ziziphus mucronata extracts for their effect on glycosylation hemoglobin.
 Methods: Successive gradient maceration Z. leaves were carried using Hexane, Acetone, Methanol separately with water obtain four (4) labelled HE, AE, ME, WE respectively. These subjected studies inhibitory glycosylation, Standard laboratory methods used screen phytochemicals most potent extract.
 Results: The result showed that ME extract exhibited dose-dependent increase percentage both glycosylation. However, stricking note, AE more data (%) potency 71.02 at 1mg/ml, lowest concentration (of 25mg/ml) 0.242nm highest mean 3.663nm after 72 hours. (the potent) revealed presence alkaloids, anthraquinone, glycosides, flavonoids, phenols, saponin, tanins terpenoids.
 Conclusion: Thus, Acetone likely give lead drug molecule when further explored; which somewhat justify folkloric claims leave an antidiabetic.
